Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, March 17 at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church for Emogene Lee Joy of Artesia.
Mrs. Joy, 91, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017 at her home.
Rev. Monty Leavell will officiate at the service with burial to follow at Woodbine cemetery. Pallbearers are Joe Schiel, Gary Beverage, Shane Hall. Jim Bob Burnett and Randy Worley. Honorary pallbearers are Vernon Asbill and Ronnie Null.
There will be visitation on Thursday, March 16 at Terpening & Son Mortuary from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Emogene was born on April 9, 1925 in Birmingham, Alabama; the daughter of Grady Youngblood and Lee Esther (Snow) Youngblood.
On December 21, 1945 she married Charles "Chuck" Joy in Dothan, Alabama. They moved to Artesia in 1968 from Dallas, Texas.
She was a secretary and a member of First United Methodist Church. Emogene was involved in many clubs; President of the PTA, Secretary of West District PTA, Secretary of the Artesia Country Club, Head Mother of the March of Dimes, Honor My Book Review Club, and enjoyed giving book reviews and also taught parliamentary procedure.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Thomas Youngblood and sister Edith Loretta Harkins and daughter Carol Griffin.
Survivors include her husband Charles "Chuck" Joy of the family home; grandsons George Griffin III of Farmers Branch, TX, Grant Griffin of Austin, TX and Gi Gi Miller of Austin, TX.
