Emilia Phillips

Funeral service is scheduled for 9:30 a.m., Friday, November 4 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Emilia Ruiz Phillips of Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Mrs. Phillips, 63, died Friday, October 28, 2016 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas.

Fr. Martin Cornejo will officiate at the services with cremation to follow. A rosary is scheduled for Thursday, November 3, at 6:30 p.m.

Emilia was born September 19, 1953 in Artesia, New Mexico to Victor Ruiz and Teresa (Gomez) Ruiz. She was a longtime Artesia resident before moving to Carlsbad in 1973.

On September 19, 2008 she was married to Tom Phillips in Carlsbad.

Emilia was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. She was a member of San Jose Catholic Church in Carlsbad.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son Joey Palomino; brother Alfredo Ruiz; and two sisters.

Emilia is survived by her husband Tom Phillips of the family home; daughters Veronica Lopez and husband John of Carlsbad, Lenore Palomino of Carlsbad, and Susie Alva of Carlsbad; sisters Lupe Chacon of Artesia, Marta Beltran of Roswell, N.M., and Gloria Ruiz of Artesia; brother Freddie Ruiz of Albuquerque, N.M.; and 7 grandchildren.
