Effie Laverne Potter was born on February 13, 1931 and left to be with the Lord on August 8, 2007. Effies heart was made of gold as she inspired and dedicated her life in caring and helping people. As a youngster at 19, Effie was employed at Irby Drugstore; soon she would spend the next 45 years of her life working for the Currier Abstract Co. After retiring Effie went to work for Mack Energy for the next 4 years. Never to be idle, Effie volunteered countless hours to the Zia Girl Scout Council and to Grammys House. Effies honesty, generosity, loyalty and sense of community pride have made her a friend to all that knew her. In the past and present Effie has been involved with Desk and Derrick Charter Member, Grammys House Board of Directors, Zia Girl Scout Council Board of Directors and Life Member, Altrusa Club, New Mexico Womens Bowling Association, New Mexico Youth Bowling Association, Artesia Womens Bowling Association, Artesia Womens Golf Association, Lifetime Member of New Mexico Landmans Association, and Girl Scouts of USA Lifetime member. Effie was preceded in death by her parents Effie Newman Sessum and Floyd Leon Sessum and a sister, Willie Faye Cage. She is survived by her children Margaret Laverne Westall of Phoenix, AZ and Mickey Lynn Warwick and her husband Ed of Houston, TX, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and countless nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brothers Charles Sessum of Ruidoso, NM, Joe E. Sessum and wife Georgia of Weatherford, TX, sisters Barbara Noling of Artesia, Norma Mansfield and her husband E.B. of Martinez, CA, Jannett Boyer of Pincole, CA, Peggy Hooten and her husband Bobby of Littleton, CO, and Elizabeth Grissom and her husband Steve of Lebanon, OR. Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 11 at West Main Baptist Church with Rev. Walt Isaacs and Mike Currier officiating. No visitation is planned. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Zia Girl Scout Council, Grammys House, or the Desk and Derrick Educational Trust, 5153 E. 51st St., Ste. 107, Tulsa, OK 74135. Donations should be marked Restricted to donations for women only.
