Earl Schneider

Closed casket services are scheduled at 10:00 A.M. Friday, January 23 at Terpening Son Mortuary for Earl Schneider, Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Schneider, 86, died Tuesday, January 20, 2004 in Roswell, New Mexico. Jim Barnett will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons Tim Schneider, Jake Schneider, and John Studebaker and nephews Bob Southard, Rick Southard, and Greg Southard. Mr. Schneider was born September 5, 1917 in Artesia; the son of William Schneider and Elizabeth Haverkost Schneider. He graduated from Artesia High School in 1934. He served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. He was commended for meritorious service and was seriously injured while ferrying fuel to the Flying Tigers in China. On June 10, 1944 he was married to Marion Ton in Worcester, Mass. She preceded him in death June 5, 1958. He married Norma Jo Southard on December 1, 1959 in Artesia. He was retired Postmaster in Lakewood, N.M. and Loco Hills, N.M. and was a member of Hope Church of Christ; and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was preceded in death by his first wife Marion; by his parents; and by four brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his wife Norma Jo Schneider of the family home; sons Jon D. Schneider and wife Janis of Oklahoma City, Okla., Gary W. Schneider and wife Claudia of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Steven C. Schneider and wife Karen of Amarillo, Texas; and by eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
