Services are scheduled at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, June 26 at First United Methodist Church for Dr. Glenn Edward Stone, 304 McArthur Ave., Artesia, New Mexico. Dr. Stone, 87, died Saturday, June 22, 2002 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. Rev. Paul Dean Duerksen will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be members of Artesia Downtown Lions Club; Milt Houston, Howard Crausby, Ronnie Jackson, Bill Greenhaw, Gary Scott, Jr. and Ken Murphy. Dr. Stone was born October 28, 1914 in Artesia; the son of Edward Stone and Alvena Theresa Moser Stone. He served his country in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. On January 28, 1939 he was married to Cathryn Douglas in Pecos, Texas. He was a retired optometrist who practiced for fifty years and was a Life Member of the National Optometric Association and the New Mexico Optometric Association. Glenn was a member of First United Methodist Church; a Life Member of Artesia Downtown Lions Club; and served on the boards of the Artesia Historical Museum, the Conquistador Council of Boy Scouts of America and the Artesia Community Concert Association. Survivors include his wife Cathryn D. Stone of the family home; daughter Camille George and husband Lester of Artesia; son Glenn Edward Stone, Jr. and wife Margaret of Grand Junction, Colo.; brother Rev. Cyril Stone and wife Mary of Abilene, Texas; grandchildren Cole George and wife Karen of Skiatook, Okla., Joel George and wife C.C. of Lubbock, Texas; Shannon Higgins and husband Brent of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Chris Douglas Stone of Grand Junction; and three great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church - P.O. BOX 1492- Artesia, NM 88211.
