Memorial services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2013 at St. Pauls Episcopal Church for Eric Reinhard Jensen, 703 W. Mann Ave., Artesia, New Mexico.

Dr. Jensen, 89, died Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Lakeview Christian Home in Carlsbad.

Rev. Maurice Geldert, Vicar, will officiate at the services. Cremation is under direction of Terpening Son Mortuary. No visitation is planned. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Pauls Episcopal Church, 807 S. 10th St., Artesia, NM 88210.

Eric was born November 24, 1924 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin the son of Ernest Alton Jensen and Elsa Minna Knop Jensen. He first came to Artesia in 1966 from Milwaukee, Wisc.

On Sept. 7, 1950 he was married to Elaine M. Abbe Abendroth in Santa Fe, N.M. She preceded him in death April 24, 2001 while they resided in Florida.

He received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Colorado Masters degree from the University of Denver and his Ph.D. from Michigan State University.

He was a music educator whos career included choral teacher at Shorewood Public Schools in Milwaukee, Wisc., 196065 Chairman of the Department of Music at the College of Artesia NM, 196568 dean at Milton College WI, 197073 associate director of American School Foundation, Monterrey, Mexico, 197377 choral conductor Eunice NM Public Schools., 197778 faculty member at Nova University, Fort Lauderdale, Fl., 199095 and taught private piano lessons. Eric also was a vicepresident with American Home Security Life Ins. Co. from 197881.

He arranged, conducted andor was pianist for many musical shows including Marriage of Figaro, Godspell, Amahl, Annie, Fidelio, Bye Bye, Birdie, Music Man, Babes in Arms, Lil Abner, How to Succeed in Business and Calamity Jane. Eric also authored several childrens piano books that incorporates a new methodology introducing new musicians to music through eye, hand and brain coordination. He was also a church musician directing music at First United Methodist Church and St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Artesia and St. Pauls United Methodist Church, Las Cruces and Ortega United Methodist Church, Jacksonville, Fl.

Eric served as president of the Artesia Library Board, the Literacy Council of Artesia, and Friends of the Library in Las Cruces.

Survivors include a sister Helen Jensen of Kingston, Wisc.
