Doyle Pounds 85, of Artesia, passed from this life on Tuesday, July 17, 2018. Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 20, 2018 at Hermosa Church of Christ with family members officiating. Interment will be at Woodbine Cemetery.
Doyle was born in Lamesa, TX. He grew up with a love for scouting and achieved the highest honor of Eagle Scout. Later, as a farmer, he was awarded the New Mexico Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year in 1965. He was a long-time resident of the Pecos Valley, moving to the Artesia area in 1956. He served our country in the U.S. Army for two years, farmed for nearly 40 years, served on the Eddy County Fair Board for many years, worked for SWIG Cotton for 12 years, and late in life enjoyed serving as a greeter for Walmart where he made new friends and reconnected with old friends. He was a faithful member of the church of Christ, serving as an elder for the 8th & Grand congregation for 21 years.
Doyle married Dixie Williams on January 2, 1955 in Artesia. He was preceded in death by his parents, L.C. "Buck" Pounds and Mary "Kitten" Pounds.
He is survived by his wife; five children, Dwayne Pounds and his wife Melanie of Artesia, Donnie Pounds and his wife Dee of Artesia, Diana Joy and her husband Jack of Artesia, Deena Morgan and her husband Johnny of Prosper, TX, Daana Pittam and her husband Curt of Artesia; one sister, Verna Owens of Artesia; 16 grandchildren, Brandon Joy, David Pounds, Kami Jenkins, Jared Pounds, Kolbyn Joy, Dustin Pounds, Stuart Joy, Daniel Pounds, D'Naye Conklin, Destiny Contreras, Braeden Morgan, Zane Pittam, Brice Morgan, Zaac Pittam, Za'Leigh Pittam, and Brynlee Morgan; and 16 great-grandchildren. Honorary grandchildren: Kristal Speck and Chanelle Forister.
Pallbearers will be the grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers: Randy Allison, Don Calvert, Nubbin Crouch, Joe Durand, Jeff Fanning, Steve Forister, John Foster, David Houston, Jack Huddleston, Ron Lewis, Kenneth Monk, Lonnie Owens, Brook Owens, J.T. Ross, and Don Tidwell.
The viewing will be Thursday at Terpening & Son Mortuary from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
