Interment services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at Lake Arthur Cemetery, Lake Arthur, N.M., for former Artesia resident Dorothy May Tillery. Dorothy had lived in Clovis, N.M. since 1993, and was a resident at Farwell Care Rehab Center in Farwell, Texas, since 2011.
Mrs. Tillery, 83, died Saturday, May 4, 2013 in Farwell, Texas.
A memorial service is also scheduled at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, at Roselawn and Grand Streets, Artesia, with Rick Sullivan, Joseph Tillery and Chad Cook officiating. Pallbearers will be Bobby Laird, Matthew Whittington, Ben Roberts, Chad Cook, Stephen Whittington, and Curtis Teel. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday.
Dorothy was born January 7, 1930 in Cherry Hill, Arkansas the daughter of Henry Irvin Brown and Mary Elizabeth Emerson Brown.
On Dec. 24, 1950 she married Trelland James Tillery in Dover, Arkansas. Dorothy and Trelland, and three children moved to Artesia in 1963 from Old Union, Arkansas. Trelland preceded her in death January 22, 1983.
She was a housewife, longtime member of First Baptist Church in Artesia, and presently a member of Central Baptist Church in Clovis.
Survivors include sons Joseph Tillery and wife Sharon of Artesia, and Kenneth Tillery and wife Kathleen of Nigeria daughter Beverly Whittington and husband Stephen of Clovis brothers Charles Brown, and James Brown both of Arkansas sisters Bernice Shumate,Betty Parham,and Doralee Johnson all of Arkansas grandchildren A.J. Laird and husband Bobby, Katie Cook and husband Chad, Matthew Whittington and wife Callie, Alicia Roberts and husband Ben, and Kristopher Tillery greatgrandchildren Kalebh Cook, Kaileigh Cook, Bailey Laird, and Avery Whittington.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters, and a grandchild, Kimberly Whittington.
