Dorothy Shishido

A celebration of life is scheduled for 10:00 AM, Friday, December 21, 2018 at Terpening & Son Mortuary Chapel for Dorothy Jane Shishido of Artesia, New Mexico.

Ms. Shishido, 82, died December 15, 2018 in Lubbock, TX.

Dorothy was born May 27, 1936 in Hilo, Hawaii; the daughter of Valentine Perry Silva and Mary Fernandez Silva. Dorothy was raised in Hawaii, with her seven siblings. She was a witness and survivor of the Pearl Harbor attack in Hawaii in 1941. Dorothy graduated from Hilo High and later received her degree in Child Development from the University of Hawaii.

She was a preschool teacher for less fortunate children. During the 1970's Dorothy became a den leader for the cub scouts, were she met the love of her life US Marine and US Army Sadatoshi Shishido. After retiring in the 1980's as a preschool teacher Dorothy and Sadatoshi moved to the mainland where they married in 1984. He preceded her in death in 2003.

She came to Artesia in 2003 from California to be closer to family. She spent a short time living in Austin Texas. Later she returned to Artesia where she lived the remainder of her life surrounded by those who loved and adored her. Dorothy spent her life fulfilling her passion of taking care of children. She loved fishing, cooking Hawaiian and Japanese cuisines and teaching her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren how to follow traditions.

She is survived by her children Willie Rex (Amanda) Medley of Kyle Texas, Micheal Mullen of Artesia New a Mexico, Michelle (Angelo) Duschane of San Diego, Naomi (Steven) Mick of Rainsboro Ohio, ten grandchildren and fourteen great children.
