Dorothy Newell

Graveside services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 14, at Woodbine Cemetery for Dorothy Lee Newell of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Newell, 85, died Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Heartland Nursing Center in Artesia.

Dorothy was born December 3, 1928 in Artesia, New Mexico the daughter of John Castleberry and Zudie Post Castleberry. She was a longtime Artesia resident before moving to Hobbs in 1970. She also resided in Breckenridge, Texas and San Antonio, Texas before moving back to Artesia in 2006.

She married Charles Ray in Artesia. Then on May 19, 1971 she was married to Bob Newell in Cody, Wyoming. He preceded her in death June 2, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her parents sons Kenny and Robert Newell and brothers James Tee, Roy,
Chester, and Raymond Castleberry.

Dorothy was a dental assistant and a former member of Clark Memorial United Methodist Church in Artesia. She attended First Baptist Church in Breckenridge, a member of the Breckenridge Elks Lodge, and was a DOE in Artesia. Ms. Dorothy loved her pets.

Survivors include her sons Riley Ray and wife Charlie of Catossa, Oklahoma, Larry Ray of Artesia, Randy Ray and wife Shay of San Antonio, Hal Newell and wife Linda of Kingsland, Texas, and Carl Newell of Big Springs, Texas 11 grandchildren and 15 greatgrandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Nursing Center or to Lakeview Christian Hospice Care.
