Closed casket services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 10, at First Baptist Church in Artesia, N.M. for longtime Artesia resident Doris Jean Setser of Roswell, New Mexico. Ms. Setser, 73, died Friday, May 7, 2004 in Roswell. Rev. Rick Sullivan will officiate at the services with burial at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Sammy Blount, Robert Horner, Paul Hudson, Ronnie Johnston, Ed Lee, Wiley Rountree, Joseph Tillery, and Steve Willard. She was born January 23, 1931 in Portales, New Mexico; the daughter of Dennis Carl Setser and Mabel Carrie Short Setser. She graduated from Eastern New Mexico University and taught in Lovington, N.M. before moving overseas to teach on American military bases in Germany, England, Japan, and the Philippines. She came to Artesia in the 1960's where she taught until her retirement. She moved to Roswell in 2003. Ms. Setser was an active member of First Baptist Church; Delta Kappa Gamma sorority; and the Artesia Association of Retired Teachers. She was a hospice volunteer and enjoyed arts crafts and ceramics. Survivors include aunts Morene Short of Las Cruces, N.M. and Bea Johnston of Amarillo, Texas; and cousins JoAnn White of Roswell, Kandi Moran and husband Steve of Roswell, and their children Holly Moran of Dallas, Texas and Luke Moran of Roswell; and Greg White and wife Debbie, and their children Amy Champion and husband J.D., Allie White, and Annie White all of Dallas. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of one's choice.
