Graveside services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, at Twin Oaks Memorial Park for Doris A. Colwell of Artesia, N.M.
Mrs. Colwell, 77, died on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at her home.
Gavin Vaughan will officiate at the services. Pallbearers will be Rodney Campbell, Roy John Dewey, Arthur Lard, Kenny Dewey, Jamey Bratcher, Tom Reneau, and Larry Brigance.
Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Doris was born January 3, 1939 in Ralls, Texas; the daughter of Glen Story and Ruby Wright Story.
She came to Artesia in June of 1968 from Las Cruces, N.M. On May 31, 1970 she was married to John P. Colwell in Artesia. He preceded her in death on November 20, 2005.
She was a bookkeeper and member of Hermosa Drive Baptist Church, Retreads Motorcycle Group and enjoyed cross country motorcycle trips in all 48 states, She loved bingo, dominoes and attending all of her grandchildrens activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son David Glen Hummel and a brother Glen Roy Story.
Survivors include sons William Hummel III of Artesia, Steven Colwell of Artesia, and Kenneth Hummel of Odessa, Texas; daughters Debra Dewey and husband Tom of Artesia, and Barbara Williams and husband Les of Midland, Texas; son-in-law Mark Campbell of Carlsbad, N.M.; brother Billy D. Story of Las Cruces, N.M.; 15 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren
Memorial contributions may be made to TLC Hospice in Carlsbad, N.M. or the American Cancer Society.
