Services are scheduled at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, January 2, 2003 at Terpening Son Mortuary for Donny Ray Thorp of Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Thorp, 62, died Saturday, December 28, 2002 at his home. Rev. Jean Riley will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mr. Thorps nephews. Mr. Thorp was born August 28, 1940 in Big Spring, Texas; the son of Forrest F. Thorp and Lottie L. Prentice Thorp. He came to Artesia in 1947 from Texas. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. On March 4, 2000 he was married to Karen Brannan in Artesia, N.M. He was a banker and helped organize and was a charter member of the Carlsbad, N.M. and Raton, N.M. Optimist Clubs. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife Karen Thorp of the family home; sons Stephen Thorp of Lubbock, Texas, Curtis Wiley of Lufkin, Texas and Brian Halstead of Newton, Kansas; daughters Kara Halstead of Newton, Kansas, Dennette Kurimski of Carlsbad, N.M. and Tamera Hannon of Lubbock; a brother Bob Thorp of Ruidoso, N.M.; a sister Betty Gray of Artesia; eight grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Carlsbad Optimist Club or Clark Memorial United Methodist Church in Artesia.
