Donald Young

Memorial services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 23 at Hope Church of Christ for Donald Cone Young of Hope. New Mexico.

Mr. Young, 89, passed away on August 20, 2017 at his home.

Donald, eldest son of Joe B. and Mary (Cone) Young was born in Carlsbad, N.M. on October 18, 1927. Don grew up near Hope, N.M. attending Hope Public Schools, graduating in 1945. He attended Modesto California Junior College and Harding College. He served in the United States Air Force and spent two years at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He worked a year at a lumber mill in Flagstaff, AZ. He moved to Tucson, AZ in 1951 and worked a year in a cabinet shop. At church he met the love of his life, Katie Maureen Coker and they were married on June 21, 1952. Four children, Donald Rodrick Young, Alyson Young, Maureen Tortorella and Shela Vilardell, were born to this happy couple during their time in Tucson. He was hired February 2, 1953 by El Paso Natural Gas Company in Tucson as a utility man. He retired in El Paso, TX on February 1, 1991, having served as a supervisor of the accounting section of El Paso's Southern Division. In 1992 he returned to Hope where he built a beautiful home on the farm where he grew up. He was a faithful Christian, having been baptized into Christ in 1938. He served as an elder both in Tucson and El Paso.
