Graveside services are scheduled at 2:00 P.M. Friday, October 4, 2002, at Woodbine Cemetery in Artesia, N.M. for longtime Artesia resident Don 0rville Mays of Roswell, New Mexico. Mr. Mays, 85, died Sunday, September 29, 2002 in Roswell. Rev. Paul Dean Duerksen will officiate at the services. Mr. Mays was born November 22, 1916 in Big Heart, Oklahoma; the son of Harry Burton Mays and Cleta Kurtz Mays. He came to Artesia in 1937 from Eastland, Texas. On September 2, 1940 he was married to Willie Edna Green in Artesia. She preceded him in death April 27, 1999. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He had owned and operated several small businesses including grocery stores and the Westside Shell Station. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Artesia; and the Artesia Elks Lodge. Survivors include his daughter Donna Ginger Mays Lord of San Antonio, Texas; a son Barney Burton Mays of Roswell; a sister Norma Mays Sparrow of Santa Ana, Calif.; grandchildren Joy Lord Fuhrmann, Jill Lord Burk and Ginger Mays Thompson all of San Antonio, Texas and Tracie Mays of Lexington, Kentucky.
