Delton Cantrell, Jr.

Graveside services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Monday June 17 at Woodbine Cemetery for former Artesia resident Delton Artie Cantrell Jr. of Garfield, New Mexico.

Mr. Cantrell, 61 passed away June 11, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces, N.M.

Visitation will be 10:00 to 11:00 am Saturday June 15, at Garfield Pentecostal Holiness Church in Garfield, with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 am. A reception will follow immediately after the services in the Fellowship Hall.

No visitation is planned for Artesia.

He was born January 4, 1952 in Truth or Consequences, N.M. the son of Delton Cantrell Sr. and Lillian Rutledge Cantrell. He attended T.or C. High School.

On October 1, 1971, he married Debra J. Doitchinoff in Gila, N.M.

Delton was employed at Rosedale Dairy, and the Chino Mines for 24 years. He was a teacher and evangelist and Pastor of Artesia Church of God, and Garfield Pentecostal Holiness Church and Arrey N.M. Community Church.

Delton enjoyed singing and playing music with Artie and Girl Country and Crystal River Band and was involved in prison ministry. He was a youth pastor to hundreds, and wrote plays, skits, and music and built numerous complete sound systems across the state. He also built beautiful musical instruments, such as guitars, drums, and wind instruments. Delton also loved hunting, fishing and teaching music in youth camp. Delton was an ordained minister and received numerous awards for world missions and his work with the Youth World Evangelism Association, and completed college for the ministerial program.

He was preceded in death by grandparents Floyd and Grace Snowder and his father Delton Cantrell Sr.

Delton is survived by his wife Debra J. Cantrell, a daughter Michele Barrera and her husband Frank granddaughters Amber Ruiz and her husband Juan Ruiz and Courtney Barrera greatgrandson Derrick Kobe Ruiz and greatgranddaughter Danni Elaine Ruiz. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Ronnie McDowell, Harold McDowell, Gordan Cantrell, Lynn Brown, Debbie Larson, Ann Moates, Michael Cantrell, DeWayne Cantrell, and John Gardner and numerous nephews and nieces, uncles, aunts and cousins.
