Deciderio Paz

Services are scheduled at 9:30 A.M. Thursday, December 4 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Deciderio S. Paz of Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Paz, 86, died Monday, December 1, 2003 in Artesia. Father Benedict Folger SS.CC. will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Desi Baca, Michael Urias, Sammy Bejarano, Gilbert Rodriguez, Jeremy Valenzuela, Danny Perez, and Louis Paz. A Rosary service is also planned for 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at Our Lady of Grace. Mr. Paz was born February 11, 1917 in Roswell, New Mexico; the son of Andres Paz and Guadalupe Sanchez Paz. In May, 1939 he was married to Alvina Jacquez in Roswell. She preceded him in death December 12, 1998. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Paz worked in plaster and stucco construction and was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Survivors include daughters Marina Gabezuela and husband Felipe of Rowlette, Texas, Ernestina Paz of Ruidoso, N.M., and Lucy Urias and husband Manuel of Artesia; and children he raised: Barbara Valenzuela of Artesia, Susanne Rodriguez of Houston, Texas, Thelma Cruz of Lubbock, Texas, and Danny Perez of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. Also surviving are a brother Cesario Paz of San Antonio, Texas; and 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
