David Younggren

February 11, 1927 — March 1, 2020

A celebration of life service is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 7, at Landsun Homes, 1900 Westridge Road, Carlsbad, N.M. for David A. Younggren of Artesia, N.M.

Mr. Younggren, 93, joined his wife Ethel Mae and son Tracy Irwin, in Heaven on March 1, 2020.

Rev. Stephanie Harmon will officiate at the service. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.

David was born on February 11, 1927, to Hugo and Lena Younggren on the farm in West Center Township, Stevens County, Kansas. David graduated from Hugoton High School in 1945. David served his country in the United States Army Air Corp from July 1945 to March 1947. He was stationed during World War II in Hawaii at Hickman Air Force Base for the majority of his service.

After the war he married  Ethel Mae Lyttle in 1948, and they lived in Council Grove, Kansas. Later they moved to Hugoton, Kansas, where he worked for Northern Natural Gas Company. Then he transferred to Liberal, Kansas with Northern Natural Gas Co. before retiring in Midland, Texas. He moved to a retirement village in Tampa, Florida in 2006 before moving to Artesia in 2012.

David was a scoutmaster and on many council and district committees for the Boy Scouts of America. The Concho Valley Council in Texas honored him with the Silver Beaver award.

He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge for 70 years. He was also an active member of the Methodist Church where he always sang in the choir and taught many bible studies.

For the final seven years of his life David lived at Landsun Home in Carlsbad. There he enjoyed fellowship and was active with the different committees, called Bingo, helped with the rummage sale, participated in Bible studies, and prayer groups.

David is survived by his son Terry and wife Deborah of Artesia; grandson Tracy and wife Lori of Leander, Texas; granddaughter Kay of Artesia; great-grandson Zachery of Canyon, Texas; and great-granddaughter Zoey of Leander; nieces Nancy Zirkel, Sherry Wilson, Carolyn Andres, Pam Prather, and Connie Neil; and nephews John and Mike Younggren.
