Memorial services are scheduled at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 2, at First United Methodist Church in Artesia, New Mexico for David Allen Harris of Artesia. No visitation is scheduled. Mr. Harris, 71, died Thursday, October 31, 2002 at his home. Rev. Paul Dean Duerksen and Rev. Fred McDonald will officiate at the services. Masonic Rites will also be given. Honorary pallbearers will be all grandchildren, friends and Masonic brethren. Mr. Harris was born August 21, 1931 in Hagerman, New Mexico; the son of David Ernest Harris and Eula Allen Harris. He was a 1949 graduate of Roswell High School and attended Eastern New Mexico University where he played football. He was stationed in Germany and California while serving in the United States Army during the Korean conflict and received an honorable discharge in 1953. On March 9, 1951 he was married to Bonnie L. Edwards in Roswell, New Mexico. He retired from roofing and general construction after 40 plus years; having owned several companies in Artesia, Carlsbad and Clovis. He was active in insurance since 1995 with Carlsbad Insurance Agency and J. S. Ward Son, Inc. in Artesia. He was also active in farming and ranching; and in youth sports coaching his childrens baseball and softball teams for many years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church; and served as president of Carlsbad Kiwanis Club, Artesia Rotary Club and FAMBROUGH Water Co-op of Hagerman. He was a 32 Degree Mason and former Master Mason of the Carlsbad and Hagerman Masonic Lodges and served on numerous civic boards. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Allen Lane Harris. Survivors include his wife Bonnie Harris of the family home; a son Jerry Harris of El Paso, Texas; daughters Donna Cisco and husband Jack of Roswell and Leslie Underwood and husband Vernon of Hagerman; sisters Frances Carpenter and Ernestine Harrison and husband Ambrose all of Roswell; and grandchildren A.J. Cisco, Jodi Lynn Cisco, Colton Cisco, Amanda Underwood, Cody Underwood, Chance Underwood, Bryan Harris and Kevin Harris. Allen will always be remembered as a man of integrity and honor who gave freely of his love to his wife, children, grandchildren and friends. The family suggests memorial contributions in Allens name be made to a favored charity.
