David Collier

Memorial services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, at First Baptist Church for longtime Artesia resident David C. Collier of Roswell. David C. Collier, age 88, passed on August 11, 2007 at his home in Roswell, NM. David was born in Dixie, OK, June 3, 1919 to Carrie and Clifton Collier. Mr. Collier attended Texas Tech University when he enlisted in the Army during World War II. He was a First Sergeant in the 832 Corp of Engineers. He was involved in the Central European Campaign including the Normandy Invasion as well as the Battle of the Bulge. David married, Mary Louise Redus, on June 1, 1948. She survives him at their home. Mr. Collier was an entrepreneur. He was involved in many aspects of the oil business and was an independent oil producer for several decades. He created and managed several oil companies including Collier Energy. David C. was a Christian. He is a member of the First Baptist Church of Artesia where he was a deacon for years. Other surviving family members include his oldest daughter Mary C. Moore and her husband, Stephen of Roswell; his son, Timothy David Collier of Casper, WY; and his youngest daughter, Monica Morgan, and her husband, Chuck Midland, TX. His grandchildren are Stirling Truman Spencer, Jr. of San Francisco, CA; Christopher Collier Spencer and his wife, Lisa, of Port Orange, FL; Cara Anne Collier of Austin, TX; David Christian Collier of Dallas, TX; Gabriella Collier of Santa Fe, NM; Kari Morgan McNicoll and her husband, Matthew of Keller, TX; and Lydia Morgan Driver and her husband, Brandon of Lubbock, TX. He has one great-granddaughter, Lydia Joy Spencer, of Port Orange, FL. David has one brother, Hub Collier, and his wife, Jerry of Cushing, OK. Jimmy Collier, a sister-in-law, lives in Artesia. Another, sister-in-law, Connie Redus, resides in Dallas, TX. Brother-in-law, J.D. Redus, is from Midland, TX. He is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Raybum StaticCollier.
