Darrell Fear

Darrell Eugene Fear, 70, of Artesia, NM entered this world on June 13th, 1953, in El Paso, TX. Born to Donald Eugene Fear and Wanda (Wise) Fear who later moved to Portales, NM and Sunset, UT where he spent most of his childhood. A beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, husband, dad, father-in-law, papa, and friend to many was called to his eternal resting place on August 26th, 2023. 

On July 18th, 1973, Darrell married Diana Rogers in Portales, NM. The lovely couple went on to have three beautiful boys: Daniel Eugene, James Shaun, and Robert Chance. 

Darrell and Diana made a forever home in Artesia, NM where they raised their three boys and Darrell worked as a Downhole Completion Specialist for Halliburton Energy Services. In 2016, Darrell retired from Halliburton after dedicating 36 years to the oilfield. 

Darrell was not foreign to taking on an adventure. Traveling to Africa with his brother Stan in May of 1990, tubing down Ogden River with his boys, and spent many days woodworking in his shop building exquisite pieces of furniture, specifically little chairs for his grandchildren and the children of family friends. 

Darrell, Hot Air Balloon Pilot Extraordinaire, had the opportunity to travel and fly hot air balloons in many places across the US and Mexico. Darrell participated in many balloon rallies, for over 30 years; where he met many people and made many lifetime friendships. 

His greatest joys were his family whom he loved spending time with, ballooning and the wonderful community that surrounded him with that hobby, and enjoying a glass of wine or whiskey after a hard day. 

Darrell was predeceased by his mother, Wanda (Wise) Fear and his father Donald Eugene Fear, father-in law, Jimmy Rogers and his beloved wife, Diana Fear.
He is survived by his mother-in-law Jessie Rogers, brother, Stan Fear, two sisters, Vivian Hadley and Sandra Memmelaar; his three sons and daughters-in-laws - Daniel and Andrea, Shaun and Tricia, Robert and Katrina and his five wonderful grandchildren - Jazzlyn (16), Decland (12), Porter (3), Riley (3) and Amara (5 months). 

Visitation and viewing will be offered Monday, September 4th from 2PM - 6PM. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, September 5th, at 10AM at Hermosa Baptist Church. Burial Services will follow at Mt. Zion, Dora, NM at 2PM. Pallbearers will be Daniel Fear, Shaun Fear, Robert Fear, Stan Fear, Scott Parrish, and Jason Ellis. Honorary pallbearers are Darrell's three grandsons Decland Fear, Porter Fear and Riley Fear.
