On July 11th. 2020, Danny Joe Brito of Artesia, NM., traded in his hot rod wheelchair for angel wings. After 58 years of putting holes in walls of his parent’s house and making the whole town of Artesia aware of his presence with bright flashing lights, Danny decided it was enough and joined our Holy Father, peacefully and with loved ones near.
Danny (Uncle Danny as most of the family knew him), was born July 13th, 1961 in Artesia, where he graduated from high school and spent his entire life. He lived with his parents, Carmen and Daniel Brito, who cared and tended to him tirelessly. He was also survived by his younger brothers Andy (Moose) Brito and Steve Brito, as well as 4 nieces, 4 nephews and 5 grandnieces and 8 grandnephews.
Danny will forever be remembered for his large cheesy grin, hugs that felt like they would break your back, wheelchair rides for any and all the family, sometimes inappropriate, but usually funny phrases, and a larger than life laugh that could make anyone smile. He knew he was a pain to deal with at times, and he fully embraced it and always acknowledged it. Danny was also the guy that everyone in town knew or would have conversations with, whether at church, at Wal-Mart, or in the various spots in town where he liked to sit, and watch traffic go by. His heart was just as big as his grin.
A Rosary is scheduled for 9:30am Friday July 17th at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church with funeral mass to follow at 10:00am. Arrangements are under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary. There is also a go fund me account set up to help with expenses and more info to Danny’s story.
