Services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at Faith Baptist Church for Dan C. Lewis of Artesia.
Mr. Lewis, 73, died Sunday, December 6, 2015 at Lincoln County Medical Center in Ruidoso, New Mexico.
Michael Elliott will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bob Asher, Jay Bilberry, Cheto Moreno, Richard Artrip, ElRay Sutton, Ken Poskey and Richard Jones.
Dan was born February 26, 1942 in Three Rivers, Texas; the son of Perry M. Lewis and Evelyn (Martin) Lewis. He came to Artesia in December 1975 from Maljamar, NM.
On June 14, 1963 he was married to Judy Mills in Kermit, Texas.
He was an plant operator and retired in 2010 from DCP after 38 years on the job. His first goal after retirement was to read all six volumns of Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. His next goal was to learn Spanish. In 2009 he accomplished his dream of walking on the Great Wall of China. Along with his family and friends he was able to take many cruises and travel to different parts of the world. He was blessed with a family he loved and was very proud of them. Dan was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed jogging, using his metal detector, and reading. He was an active member at Faith Baptist Church and served as a greeter. He had a heart of gold and was compassionate and loving to family, friends and everyone he met.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Perry Lewis; and sister Peggy Taylor.
Survivors include his spouse Judy Lewis of the family home; sons Dan S. Lewis and wife Theresa of Artesia, and Duane Lewis and wife Cheri of Paris, Texas; grandchildren Caleb Lewis and wife Kristin, Brad Lewis and wife Beth all of Edmond, Oklahoma, Luke, Parker, Lilly, and Tate Lewis all of Paris, Texas, and Ashlee Langton; great-grandchildren Conner and Cash Lewis and Jace Molina; brother Pat Lewis and wife Jane of Van, Texas.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas, 4707 Bengal Street, Dallas, TX 75235.
