Clydea Smith

Clydea M. Smith, age 78, went home on Thursday December 15, 2016 in her daughter's home in Artesia, NM surrounded by loved ones.

Born Clydea Mae Lamb at the Bray Homestead in Healdton, OK on September 21, 1938 to Clyde Deward Lamb and Lilly Maude Lamb (nee Reeves) and was the third youngest of four children. She married Harlen Darby Vernon in Louisiana in February of 1956. He passed on December 11, 1962 and was buried in Healdton, OK. Clydea and her children moved to Artesia, NM in May of 1963. On May 18, 1985 she married Vernon E. Smith in Artesia. They had a marriage full of love and happiness and she was "his gal" until his passing on August 11, 2011.

Anyone who knew Clydea knew her love for her children and all of her grand and great-grandchildren. She worked for the Artesia Public Schools as a teacher's aide for the Special Education program, and also drove a school bus and was a swimming teacher for many years. She was a member of Trinity Temple Assembly of God and had a close and personal relationship with our Lord and Savior.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father, sisters Gloria and Martha, her two husbands, step-son Kirk Smith, and her grandbabies who were too perfect for this world.

Her survivors include her brother David Lamb and wife Maria of Santee, CA, children Darby Vernon of Artesia, Harlen Vernon and his wife Linda of Silverton, TX, Denise Robinson and husband Roger of Ulysses, KS, Darla Vernon of Artesia, and step-daughter Tina Hale and husband Brett of Las Cruces, NM, 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Services are scheduled for Monday December 19, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Trinity Temple Assembly of God in Artesia, NM with a burial to follow at Twin Oaks Cemetery, and will be officiated by Pastor Bobby Argo. Pallbearers will be Jerry Robinson, Skiiler Cheatham, Justin Robinson, Duncan Vernon, David Beltran, Andrew Anderson, and Ezekiel Montoya.

Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary Sunday beginning at 2:00 p.m.
