Claudie Gable

Memorial services are scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 10, at Hermosa Drive Church of Christ for longtime Artesia resident Claudie Gable. Michael Joiner will officate at the services.

Mrs. Gable, 88, died Wednesday afternoon, May 5, 2010 in Boerne, Texas.

Claudie Merle Turner was born on August 8, l921 to Floyd and Bertha Merideth Turner in Mabank, Texas. After graduation from Mabank High School, she attended North Texas State Teachers College in Denton, Texas. There she met and later married O.R. Gabe Gable on Feb. l4, 194l.

After the war they moved to Artesia, New Mexico and owned and operated Gable Studio and Camera Shop for fourteen years. This marriage ended in divorce in 1960. In 1964 Claudie was married to Fred Mermis and they continued to make Artesia their home.

She was manager of the book store at the College of Artesia until it closed in 1971. She then was bookkeeper for Mermis Construction Co. until it was dissolved in 1992. Claudie was a member of the Hermosa Dr. Church of Christ, a charter member of Good Samaritan Helpers club, and auxiliary of Good Samaritan Center. She held several offices and was an active member until Dec. 2009. Claudie and husband, Fred, were charter members of Artesia Bulldog Sams RV Club. Mr. Mermis preceded her in death.

In 1997 Claudie and Gabe Gable were remarried and continued to live in Artesia until December 2009 when they relocated to the Texas Hill Country to be close to their daughter and her family.

Survivors are husband Gabe Gable daughter Gwynn Biel and husband, Bill or Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas granddaughter Amanda Gable Biel of Austin, Texas and stepson Freddie Mermis and wife Virginia and family of Artesia and a niece Virginia Gail Eck of Wimberley, Texas.

Everyone that knew Claudie loved her dearly. She was the sweetest and kindest person and a true caregiver. She will be greatly missed.
