Chrystine Willard

August 17, 1926 — September 3, 2012

Services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 7 at the Terpening amp Son Mortuary Chapel for Chrystine Anderson Willard of Artesia who passed away Sept. 3, 2012 at her home. Rev. Rick Sullivan will officiate at the Services. Interment will follow at Woodbine Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday.
PChrystine was born on August 17, 1926 in Artesia New Mexico the daughter of Wallace Austin Anderson and Martha Ann Wilkinson Anderson. She was born, raised and passed from this life at her family home at 307 W. Grand. She attended the old Central School and graduated from Artesia High School in 1944. After graduation she attended the University of New Mexico where her lifelong love of higher education began.

She followed him around the world serving in Mississippi, Germany, Alaska, Kansas, Texas, and Arizona. Along the way they had three children. In 1963 with the retirement of her husband she returned to Artesia and to her family home to raise her family and care for her elderly father. Her life revolved around her family and friends and her greatest joys were spending time with them.P
PHer love of education and belief that you were never too old to learn inspired her to achieve her lifelong goal of a college education. In 1985 she received her Associates of Arts Degree from Eastern New Mexico University. She continued taking classes well into her 80s until her health no longer allowed her to do so.
PShe was a longtime member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and a member of the First United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many years. She also attended the First Baptist Church of Artesia.
PShe was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother Wallace W. Anderson and her husband Laurence V. Willard Jr.
PSurvivors include her children Laurence David Willard, Cheryl Ann Currier and husband Cliff and Steven Ray Willard and wife Judy all of Artesia. Her adopted daughters and caregivers Iris Guerrero, Isis Coss and Ana Coss.
PGrandchildren Benjamin Currier and wife Margaret, Heather Santillanes, Christy Bentz and husband John all of Albuquerque, and Allen Willard and wife Rachel and Kevin Willard of Artesia.
PGreat Grandchildren Kimberly Gordon, Matthew Santillanes, Matthew Bentz, Owen Currier of Albuquerque and Ella June Willard of Artesia.
PShe was also survived by her sisters in law, Janice Potter and husband Marvin of Kansas City Kansas and Jean Willard of Derby Kansas.
