Memorial services are scheduled at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 12, at West Main Baptist Church for Chester Gable of Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Gable, 79, died Sunday, November 9, 2008 at Artesia Good Samaritan Center. Rev. Jason Kraft will officiate at the services. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Montgomery, James Thomas, John Jacobs, Ray Martin, Bill Runyan, Jimmy Arnold, Ottie Speir, Jim Bristow, Don Conner, Guy Chevrolet employees, the Good Samaritan staff, and PVT employees. Private family interment will be at Woodbine Cemetery. Mr. Gable was born May 7, 1929 in Cullman, Alabama; the son of Virdie Fritz Gable and Ethyl Mathis Gable. On Sept. 2, 1949 he was married to Geneva Campbell in Roswell, N.M. He came to Artesia in 1953. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korea Conflict. Chester worked at Guy Chevrolet for over 50 years. He started out as a partsman then became Body Shop Manager then Service Manager and most recently was a salesman. He was a member of West Main Baptist Church, and loved to hunt, fish, and spend time with his grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Omie Crutchfield; brother Cecil Gable; and numerous nieces and nephews. Survivors include his wife Geneva Gable of the family home; son Robert Gable of Artesia; daughters Melinda Piper and husband Al of Artesia, and Cheri Crouch of Artesia; brother Tony Gable and wife Mary of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; sister Elizabeth Twilley and husband Olen of Cullman, Alabama; and a grandson Dakota Crouch of Portales, N.M.
