Services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 23, at Hermosa Drive Church of Christ for lifelong Artesia resident Chester Milton Castleberry of Roswell, New Mexico.
Mr. Castleberry, 91, died Sunday, June 19, 2011 at Mission Arch Care Center in Roswell.
Michael Joiner and Darrell Brown will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons David Castleberry, Mark Castleberry, Perry Castleberry, Greg Castleberry, Jeff Simmons and Kenny Simmons. Honorary pallbearers will be Al Lewis, Maurice Stewart, J.T. Ross, Eddie Guy and Jimmy Boyse.
Chester was born May 2, 1920 in Artesia, New Mexico the son of John R. Castleberry and Zudie Post Castleberry. He was a lifelong Artesia resident moving to Roswell two years ago. Together with his family, they started Castleberry Service Station at the intersection of US285 and Castleberry Road.
On June 29, 1940 he was married to Pauline Shortess in Artesia.
He was a retired maintenance mechanic for Amax Postash Company. He was a member of the Church of Christ Bulldog Sams RV Club volunteered at Artesia Senior Center and Artesia Good Samritan Center and volunteered with the Soap Box Derby on local and regional levels.
He was preceded in death by his partents a son Ronald Castleberry and by brothers J.T. Castleberry, Roy Castleberry, and Ray Castleberry.
Survivors include his wife Pauline Castleberry of the family home a son Charles Castleberry and wife Betty of Stephenville, Texas daughters Dana Lee Swift and husband Larry of Roswell, and Donna Kay Simmons and husband Ken of Ausin, Texas a sister Dorothy Ray Newell of Artesia 12 grandchildren 13 greatgrandchildren and one greatgrandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
