Chere Johnson

A memorial service is scheduled for 10 am Friday, May 29, at Terpening & Son Chapel for Chere LaRue Johnson of Artesia, New Mexico.

Ms. Johnson, 80, died May 12, 2020 at her home in Artesia.

Chere was born January 26, 1940 to Herman Friedrich Weinberg and Juana Preston Smith Weinberg. She was raised by her grandmother Nancy Clyde Smith on a ranch in the San Andres Mountains. She was a longtime resident of Artesia and graduated from Artesia High School in 1959.

She was married to Eugene Edwards on June 2, 1958. He died on September 9, 2019. She was married to Joe Johnson on June 24, 1981. He preceded her in death on July 18, 2015.

Chere loved going camping, fishing and being outdoors. She enjoyed gardening and flowers, spent lots of time raising doves and several types of fish, and had two parrots Tarazana and Buddy.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her daughter Lorie Goldston and husband Sid of Artesia; step-son Josh Johnson of Artesia; grandchildren Kristian Goldston, James Goldston, Jake Goldston, Cody Goldston, Keegan Goldston, Dylan Goldston, Jenna Goldston, Dkaota Goldston, Amber Klontz and husband Bryan, and Shawna Standard and fiance Josh Bernett; great-grandchildren Kaydence, Kailee, and Kenzie Klontz, Tyler Johnson, Zach Reid and Ashley Reid; and by many members of the Johnson family and the Monroe family.
