Charles Tidwell

d. August 28, 2022

Charles Eugene Tidwell, Sr., 92, died August 21, 2022, in Fort Worth, Texas. Charles was born on October 26, 1929, to Warren Columbus Tidwell, Sr., and Eunice Viola Chaney Tidwell, in Artesia, New Mexico. He was the fourth of ten children, the first to be born in the hospital and the last to leave this earth. He was preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings; Warren Columbus Tidwell, Jr., Elizabeth Broocke, Alma Means, Bill Tidwell, Margie Lee Tidwell, Dan Tidwell, Fred Tidwell, Jerry Tidwell, and Ronnie Tidwell.

Charles was born in Artesia but raised in the mountains of Pinon and Weed, New Mexico, and lived a life most of us can only imagine. He had a huge heart and personality, never met a stranger, and would help anyone needing help.

Bound for greatness, Charles excelled in school, joined the army, became a Sergeant and was in the Paratrooper division and jumped twenty-six times, including during Operation Longhorn in Texas 1952. After serving our country, he moved to "town" Artesia, New Mexico, and started a family. He hauled hay, opened, and operated a cafeteria, drove the bus for the potash mines and drove trucks across the country. He eventually moved to Fort Worth, Texas and established his own trucking company to provide a better life for his family. His company thrived and became one of the most respected, sought after, premier trucking companies in the United States. He loved racehorses and ran some magnificent horses throughout the years. He also dabbled in real estate in his later years.

Charles loved his family and instilled in us perseverance, hard work and helping others. He was a man of honor and true grit. "Dad"/"Pops" is survived by his children: son, Chuck Tidwell; daughter, Lisa Liberatore; son, Vann Tidwell and wife Nelva; son, Mark Tidwell. "Charlie" is survived by son, Scott Fisher. "Pa" is survived by granddaughters, Jacqueline Shawn Faletti, and husband Rick; Danielle Keller and husband Austin, and Destri Shaw and husband Aaron; great-grandchildren, Brandon Tyler Herculson, Charli Grace Faletti, Bo Frank Shaw and John Joseph Faletti. "Uncle Charlie" is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Charles is also survived by special sister-in-law Jo Tidwell and many friends.
