Services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, at First Baptist Church for Charles Stubblefield, 1602 S. 21st Street, Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Stubblefield, 74, died Sunday, July 20, 2008 at Artesia General Hospital. Rev. Rick Sullivan will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of First Baptist Church. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday. Mr. Stubblefield was born December 28, 1933 in Abilene, Taylor Co., Texas; the son of Alvin Lee Stubblefield and Fairy Eveline Holwick Stubblefield. On May 23, 1953 he was married to Frances Lewis in Plains, Texas. He came to Artesia in 1967 from Roswell, NM. He was an equipment operator for Southwestern Public Service until retirement. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he was an active deacon, usher and greeter; and was also a member of the Artesia Country Club. He was preceded in death by his parents and by one sister. Survivors include his wife Frances Stubblefield of the family home; sons Michael Stubblefield and wife Ruth Ann of Artesia, and Jeff Stubblefield and wife Melody of Artesia; daughter Kathryn Ripley and husband Steve of Artesia; brother James Stubblefield of White Sulpher Springs, Montana; sisters Patsy Colcleaser of Vallejo, California, and Oleta Daly of Palm Dale, California; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
