Memorial services were held Thursday, Oct. 2, in Las Vegas, Nevada for former longtime Artesia resident Charles Bruce of Las Vegas. He died peacefully with his three girls at his side. Mr. Bruce, age 88, died Sept 22, 2008 at his home. Charles was born October 23, 1919 in Dennison, TX. He married Jeanne Thibodeaux on August 25, 1950 in Amarillo, Texas. Charles and Jeanne began their teaching careers in Goodnight, Texas. From there, they moved to Loco Hills, N.M. and on to Artesia where Charles taught and was principal at Yucca and Hermosa schools. They retired in 1995 and moved to Las Vegas. Jeanne preceded him in death Oct. 25, 2005. He is survived by daughters Melanie Rebecca 'Becky' Mike Masek of Flagstaff, AZ, Shelly Kerr of Amarillo, TX, and Melissa Carl Wolfbrandt of Las Vegas; grandson Kacy Crosson, who is serving his second tour in Iraq and resides in Tennessee with his wife Julie, and granddaughter Carly Wolfbrandt who is a college freshman in Los Angeles; and great-granddaughters Laney, Jayla, and Annabelle Crosson. Charles will be remembered for his sense of humor, his curiosity, and his deep love for family.
