Charlene Rose Dungan, 77, passed away Monday, August 13, 2007 at her home in Artesia, New Mexico. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 21, at the First United Methodist Church in Artesia. Rev. Paul Dean Duerksen will officiate with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ronald Horner, Ross Horner, Robert Horner, Barry Dungan, Cody Connor, and Glenn Followill. Charlene was born November 30, 1929 in Cushing, Oklahoma. Her Parents were Charles L. Anthis and Ida M. Trot Anthis. She came to New Mexico in 1946 and worked at First National Bank where she met and married George C. Dungan Oct.14, l948. They began to farm southeast of Artesia on the Dungan family farm, Green Valley Ranch. They raised three children there, Sherrie Jane Followill of Artesia, Donald Dungan and wife Leslie of Artesia, and Neal Dungan and wife Carla of Carlsbad. Grandchildren are Glenn Followill, Amy Rose Followill, Allison Dungan, Barry Dungan, and Lindsay Dungan. Charlenes surviving sisters are Mary Jane Karspeck and husband Harold Karspeck of Goodland, Kansas and Joyce Elaine Connor and husband Clarence Connor of Artesia. She is also survived by her longtime companion and dance partner Mel Wise. As well as her Angel Care Givers that all faithfully took such good care of her during her illness the past few years, Jane Baeza, Amelia Segura, Viola Hernandez, Bernice Caldera, Sylvia Jimenez, Brea Powers, Linda Murphy, and Amy Rose Followill. Charlene was known for her beautiful drapery and decorating work. She learned the art of making drapery from her mother Trot Anthis, owner of Trots Draperies. When she retired, Charlene took over the business and expanded it into a beautiful and well known shop doing many of the businesses in Artesia as well as homes and surrounding towns as far away as Colorado, Texas and Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband George C. Dungan, two brothers, Floyd H. Anthis, and Joseph L. Anthis; and her parents. The family suggested memorial gifts be given to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1492, Artesia, NM 88211 or to a charity of choice.
