Celestino Vargas

Services are scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 13, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Celestino A. Vargas, of Artesia, New Mexico. PMr. Vargas, 75, died Monday, April 9, 2007 at his home. PFr. Richard Lifrak SS.CC will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family members. PVisitation will be at Terpening amp; Son Mortuary Thursday beginning at 5:00 p.m. A prayer service will be at Terpening amp; Son Chapel Thursday at 7:00 p.m. PMr. Vargas was born April 6, 1932 in Presidio, Texas; the son of Francisco Vargas and Angelita Alaniz Vargas. POn Aug. 19, 1958 he was married to Benita Jaquas in Carlsbad, N.M. He came to Artesia in 1962 from Texas. PHe worked as a roustabout for Stevenson Roach for 25 years. He was also a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. PCelestino was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
Survivors include his wife Benita Vargas of the family home; brothers Gregorio Vargas of Artesia, Silverio Vargas of Phoenix, Arizona, and Nicolas Vargas of Van Horn, Texas; sisters Enedina Majors of Mesa, Arizona, and Emma Carrillo of Artesia; numerous nieces and nephews including a niece that they raised as a daughter named Bertha Moreno of Dallas, Texas
