Celestina Herrera

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 2 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Celestina Lopez Herrera of Artesia, NM.

Mrs. Herrera, 91, passed away on October 31, 2017 at her home.

Fr. Jorge Vargus will officiate at the service with burial to follow at Woodbine cemetery. Pallbearers are Sean Orahood, Zachary Orosco, Max Vasquez, Christopher Lopez, Gage Simer and Michael Gonzales. Honorary pallbearers are Frank Lopez and Jose Maria Lopez.

Celestina was born on May 19, 1926 in Terlingua, TX; the daughter of Juan E. Lopez and Maria (Huerta) Lopez. On November 7, 1956 she married Crispin R. Herrera in Carlsbad, NM. He preceded her in death on April 22, 1983.

She was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, babysitting her grandchildren, playing bingo, cooking and family gatherings.

She was preceded in death by her husband Crispin Herrera, her parents, a daughter Virginia Herrera, 3 brothers Benigno Lopez, Florencio Lopez and Juan H. Lopez, 2 sisters Estefana Lopez and Felisa Moreno and a granddaughter Ashley R. Speir.

Survivors include her sons Rafael Orosco Jr. and wife Carol of Boise, ID and Samuel Orosco and wife Gloria of Artesia; daughters Louisa Madrid and husband Rene of Artesia, Anita Juntilla and husband Joseph of Artesia and Corinna Herrera and husband Felix of Artesia; brothers Jose Maria Lopez of Ruidoso, NM and Francisco H. Lopez of Artesia; 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
