Cecil Mauldin

Memorial Services are scheduled at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 30, at West Main Baptist Church for Cecil Eldon Mauldin, 1103 Sears Ave., Artesia, New Mexico. PMr. Mauldin, 89, died Sunday, August 26, 2007 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. PRev. Leo Pennington and Rev. Jason Kraft will officiate at the services. Interment with full military honors will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. PPallbearers will be grandsons Mike Durham, Robert Guthrie, Jeremy Guthrie, Trenton Guthrie, Curtis Pennington, Chad Fulton, Glen Fulton, and Jason Fulton. All members of the Artesia Masonic Lodge have been designated as honorary pallbearers. PVisitation at Terpening amp; Son Mortuary will begin at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday. PMr. Mauldin was born February 21, 1918 in Crossroads, New Mexico, the son of William Ira Mauldin and Minnie Blankenship Mauldin. PA lifelong Artesia area resident, he served in the United States Army during World War II and was a survivor of the Bataan Death March. PCecil married Evelyn Markham in Roswell, N.M. on Jan 14, 1946. She preceded him in death May 2, 1997. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and by grandsons Eldon Pennington and Valton Gutrie; and by a great-granddaughter Victory Lieb. POn Aug. 14, 1998, he married Wilma K. Perry in Questa N.M. PHe was a retired custodian with the Artesia Public Schools and had worked for American National Insurance Company, and Guy Chevrolet Company, had been a deputy Eddy County Tax Assessor, and was the area Electrolux Vacuum Cleaner representative. He was a member of West Main Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife Wilma Mauldin of the family home; daughters Jean Durham and husband Wayne of Artesia, Marsha Henderson and husband Loyd of Las Cruces, N.M., and Renee Guthrie and husband John, Cathy Pennington and husband Leo, and Judy Fulton and husband Louis all of Artesia; a sister Dorothy Fraizer of California; grandchildren Linda Walker, Mike Durham, Laurie Allen, Cindy Matkin, Patty Nelson, Stacey Weatherford, Chenay Hernandez, Heather Leib, Robert Guthrie, Jeremy Guthrie, Trenton Guthrie, Curtis Pennington, Leslie Havens, Chad Fulton, Glen Fulton, and Jason Fulton; 34 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
