Services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 31, at First United Methodist Church for Cathryn D. Stone, Artesia, New Mexico. PMrs. Stone, 91, died Saturday, July 22, 2006 at Lakeview Christian Home in Carlsbad, New Mexico. PRev. Paul Dean Duerksen will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Family members will serve as pallbearers. Visitation at Terpening amp; Son Mortuary will begin at 2:00 p.m. Sunday. PMrs. Stone was born July 15, 1915 in Tabernacle, Tennessee; the daughter of Rev. A. C. Douglas, a circuit rider Methodist Minister, and Stella Mae Boyd Douglas. POn January 28, 1939 she married Dr. Glenn E. Stone in Pecos, Texas. She was a lifelong Artesia area resident and moved to Artesia permanently in 1959. Her husband preceded her in death June 22, 2002. She was also preceded in death by one brother and one sister. PShe received Bachelor of Science degree in Education and Home Economics from McMurry University. She taught school for a short time and worked as receptionist for her husband's optometry practice until her retirement. PCathryn was a member of First United Methodist Church; United Methodist Women; the Needlepoint Guild, and was an active supporter of the Arts in Artesia. PSurvivors include her daughter Camille George and husband Lester C. George, Jr.; her son Glenn E. Stone, Jr. and wife Margaret Edwards Stone; a sister Clarice Mills and husband Ken Mills; grandchildren Dr. Cole George and wife Karen, Shannon Stone Higgins, Dr. Joel G. George and wife Cheryce, and Chris Stone; and great-grandchildren Kathryn and Lindsey George, Canyon Higgins, and Gillian and Gavin George.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Music department of First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1492, Artesia, NM 88211.
