Services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 19, at Westside Church of Christ for Carroll Jackson of Hagerman, New Mexico. Mr. Jackson, 80, died Wednesday, September 16, 2009 in Roswell, New Mexico. Robert Bowles will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Coleman Jackson, Jr., Marvin Laman, Kevin Freeman, Bill Wood, Jessie Lee Blevin, and James Blevins. Honorary pallbearers will be Alan Jackson, Delbert Robinson, Louis Needham, Matt Jackson, Wayne Wood, Dalton Waldrop, Johnny Nelson, Mike Waters, and Darin Wood. Visitation at Terpening Son Mortuary will begin at 10:00 a.m. Friday. Carroll was born December 17, 1928 in Mountainair, New Mexico; the son of Carroll William Jackson, Sr. and Effie D. Taylor Jackson. He was a lifelong area resident and played on the Central Valley Electric semi-pro basketball team. On Dec. 22, 1948 he was married to Opal Stone in Roswell. He was a farmer and rancher and member of the Church of Christ. He served on the Lake Arthur School Board and the Pecos Valley Water Conservancy District Board. He was preceded in death by his parents; by a son Wade Jackson; and by a sister Irene Jackson. Survivors include his wife Opal Jackson of the family home; a son John William Jackson of Lake Arthur, N.M.; daughters Effie Laman of Rio Rancho, N.M. and Carolyn Lundie of Landcaster, Calif.; a brother Coleman Jackson, Sr. of Cottonwood, N.M.; a sister Dolly Bassett of Bluewater, N.M.; ten grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
