Services are scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 14, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Carmen Muela Torrez, 1404 James Ave., Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Torrez, 81, died Monday, May 11, 2009 at her home. Burial will be at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons Thomas Aguilar, Michael Aguilar, Roberto Aguilar, Johnny Angel Garcia, David Garcia, Anthony Torrez, Andres Torrez and Daniel Torrez. A rosary is also scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday Our Lady of Grace Church. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 10 a.m. Mrs. Torrez was born October 11, 1927 in Meoqui, Chihuahua, Mexico; the daughter of Jesus Muela and Angelita Estrada Muela. On March 31, 1951 she was married to Victoriano P. Torrez in Meoqui, Mexico. She came to Artesia in 1951 from Mexico. He preceded her in death July 22, 2008. She was a housewife and member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, San Jose Committee, Cursillistas, and the Adult Choir. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers. Survivors include sons Joe Victor Torrez and wife Sally of Houston, Texas, Robert Torrez and wife Valerie of Artesia, and Alfredo Torrez of Arlington, Virginia; daughters Carmen Aguilar and husband Tom of Houston, and Olivia Garcia and husband Johnny of Lemoore, Calif.; brothers Jesus Jose Muela of Meoqui, Mexico, and Leandro Muela of Pittsburg, Calif.; sister Socorro Tavarez also of Pittsburg; 11 grandchildren Thomas Aguilar, Michael Aguilar, Roberto Aguilar, Johnny Angel Garcia, David Garcia, Anthony Torrez, Angelica Torrez, Leah Torrez, Andres Torrez, Amanda Torrez and Daniel Torrez; 2 great-grandchildren Jonah Aguilar and Christian Andres Torrez; numerous nieces and nephews.
