Carmen Montes

Services are scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, November 14, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Carmen Montes of Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Montes, 80, died Thursday, November 12, 2009 at her home. Fr. Paul Murtagh SS.CC. will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Visitation will be at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church Friday beginning at 4:00 p.m. A rosary will be at Our Lady of Grace Friday at 6:30 p.m. Mrs. Montes was born September 7, 1929 in Chihuahua, Mexico; the daughter of Eulalio Valles and Simona Vega Valles. In 1945 she was married to Silvestre Montes in Mexico. She came to Artesia in 1963 from Mexico. She was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and two sisters. Survivors include her husband Silvestre Montes of the family home; sons Abelardo Montes of Artesia, Rodrigo Montes of Mexico, and Martin Montes of Artesia; daughters Lupe Granados of Artesia, and Alicia Chavarria of Artesia; brothers Lalo Valles of Fabens, Texas, and Benjamin Valles of Fabens; sister Teresa Reyes of Fabens; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
