On Tuesday, February 21, 2023 Carmen Alicia Torrez Aguilar passed away at the age of 70 in Houston, Texas. Carmen was born September 23, 1952 in Artesia, New Mexico to Victor and Carmen Torrez.
Carmen graduated from Artesia High School in 1971. She married Tom Aguilar in September 1971. She worked for Lowell's Pharmacy until leaving for Las Cruces in 1979 where she worked for the Las Cruces schools until 1985. She moved with the family to Ottumwa, Iowa and later to Atlanta, Georgia. In 1987 she moved to Arlington, Texas where she worked for the Arlington schools. In 1994 she moved to Houston, Texas. She worked at Compaq Computers for a short time and retired.
Carmen was preceded in death by her parents.
Carmen is survived by her husband Tom, sons Thomas and spouse Charissa, Michael and spouse Myrtala and Roberto and spouse Sharon. Grandchildren, whom she loved with great passion, Jonah, Stella, Ivy, Benjamin, Victor, Julian and Ira.
Carmen is also survived by brothers Joe Torrez, Robert Torrez and spouse Valerie and Alfredo Torrez and spouse Maria and sister Olivia and spouse Johnny Garcia. Four nephews and five nieces.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers are Carmen's eldest grandson, nieces and nephews.
Carmen was an avid reader who loved to watch sports and movies with the family. She was a selfless mother and grandmother with a unique personality and could make friends with anyone. She loved dogs and had an enthusiasm for other cultures, music and food. She always rooted for the underdog and celebrated their success. She loved to dance with her entire heart and soul.
A viewing will be from 2 to 6 pm Tuesday, February 28th at Terpening & Son Mortuary. The funeral mass will be at Our Lady Of Grace Church on Wednesday, March 1st at 10 am. A rosary will be recited at 9:30 am prior to the mass. Interment will follow at San Marcos Cemetery.
