Bonifacio Hernandez

Graveside service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 19, at Woodbine Cemetery for Bonifacio Hernandez of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mr. Hernandez, 98, died Thursday, October 13, 2016 at the Sunset Villa in Roswell, New Mexico.

David Grousnick will officiate at the services.

Bonifacio was born June 5, 1918 in Dayton/Atoka, New Mexico to Jorge Hernandez and Martina (Garcia) Hernandez.

He served his country in the United States Army during World War II.

In 1950 he married Jane De Anda Sosa in Presidio, Texas. She preceded him in death on October 19, 2011. He was also preceded in death by his parents and 9 siblings.

He was a life long Artesia resident and worked for the City of Artesia as a Park Maintenance person. After he retired from the city, Bonifacio drove the bus for the Senior Citizen Center. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his daughters Gloria Villegas of Crane, Texas, Mary Louise Wagner of Artesia, and Delma Sue O'Neill of Edgewood, N.M.; son Bonifacio Hernandez, Jr. of Albuquerque, N.M.; sisters Florence Diaz and Cruz Alvarado both of Artesia; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family members.
