Blaine Haines

October 19, 1919 — August 3, 2008

Services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 8, at First Baptist Church for Blaine B. Haines, 11030 Lovington Hwy., Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Haines, 88, died Sunday, August 3, 2008 at his home. Rev. Rick Sullivan will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lynn Berry, Jeff Bell, Clay Bell, David Jackson, Bernard Cleve, and Baron Chandler. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday. Mr. Haines was born October 19, 1919 in Artesia; the son of Blaine Bedford Haines and Ruby Bell Bach Haines. He honorably served in the United States Army during the European campaign of World War II and was a Purple Heart recipient. On Dec. 31, 1948 he was married to Pauline Way in Alamogordo, N.M. She preceded him in death March 6, 2000. He was also preceded in death by his parents, step-father Grover Edward Sharp, a brother Milton Demetrius Haines, and a step-sister Iris Louis Hancock. He was a farmer and rancher; was a member of the V.F.W.; and enjoyed square dancing and playing bridge. Survivors include sons Jim Hearrell and wife Carol of Farmington Hills, Mich. and Steve Haines and wife Olivia of Artesia; grandchildren Mathew Haines and wife Chelsea of Las Cruces, N.M. and Thomas Gonzales of Artesia; and great-grandchildren Tomas Gonzales, III and Reagan Jo Haines.
