Services are scheduled at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 15, at Terpening Son Chapel for Billy John Smith, R252 N. Haldeman Rd., Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Smith, 68, died Tuesday, February 12, 2005 at his home. Rev. Don Johnston will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rufus Brown, Fritz Hammer, Dean Puckett, Floyd Johnson, Sam Cordova and George Chase Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be all friends. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 10 a.m. Monday. Mr. Smith was born February 10, 1937 in Paris, Arkansas; the son of Jack Smith and Dima Snow Smith. On Jan. 26, 1967 he was married to Sybil Ann Newberry in Artesia. He came to Loco Hills in 1950 from Henrietta, Oklahoma. He was a owner and operator of BW Oil Company and a rancher. He was a member of the Methodist denomination. He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Dima Smith, and a brother Russell Weldon Smith. Survivors include his wife Sybil Smith of the family home; daughters Pam Herring and husband Jimmy of Artesia, and Larissa Jackson and husband Jody of Artesia; son John Smith of Artesia; sister Wilma Morrow of Loco Hills, N.M.; brother Bobby Joe Smith of Carlsbad, N.M.; 4 granddaughters Brittany, Leann and Baili Herring of Artesia, and Jade Jackson of Artesia.
