Memorial services are scheduled at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, September 29, at the Lake Arthur Baptist Church for Billy G. Shelton, Lake Arthur, New Mexico. Mr. Shelton, 74, died Sunday, September 25, 2005 at the Artesia General Hospital. Rev. Raymond Derrick will officiate at the services with burial of the cremated remains at Lake Arthur Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Schneider, Leo Levario, Tom Steinbeck, Bill Grassie, Fred Funk, Garland Funk, E.H. Redden, Ty Dalton, Cody Dalton, and Brandon Dalton. No Visitation is scheduled and the cremation is under the direction of Terpening Son Mortuary. Mr. Shelton was born October 19, 1930 in Anadarko, Oklahoma; the son of Charles N. Shelton and Julia Ann Berry Shelton. On Oct. 22, 1961 he was married to Barbara Funk in Artesia. He came to Artesia in 1936 from Oklahoma. He served in the National Guard. He was a salesman in the plumbing industry, a member of the Baptist denomination, Volunteer Fireman for Lake Arthur, a member of the Lake Arthur Water Board, and the Lake Arthur Senior Citizen Group, and an avid fisherman. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Vera Moore, Bonnie Phillips, and Evelyn Graham; and his brothers Quintera McNabb and J.N. Shelton. Survivors include his wife Barbara Shelton of family home; daughters Susan Moreno of Artesia, N.M., and Jennifer Fields and husband Tracy of Lake Arthur, N.M.; brother Carl Shelton of Ft. Worth, Texas; sister Oleta ONeal of Bethany, Oklahoma; grandchildren Justin Mahan, Laci Moreno, and Morgan Moreno all of Artesia, Julia Ann Fields and Jacob Fields both of Lake Arthur; great-grandchildren Darian Mahan, Canaan Mahan both of Las Cruces, N.M., and Dalan Richardson of Artesia; numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lake Arthur Senior Citizen Center.
