Bettye Morgan

Services are scheduled at 10:00 AM Monday, November 24, at First United Methodist Church for Bettye E. Morgan, 401 S. Bolton Rd., Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Morgan, 87, died Thursday, November 20, 2003 at Artesia Good Samaritan Center. Rev. Paul Dean Duerksen will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons Neal Morgan, Craig Morgan, Jim Morgan, Trad Morgan, Earl Purcella, and Marvin Franz. Mrs. Morgan was born May 1,1916 in Tell, Texas; the daughter of William Doc Elliott and Delia May Penix Elliott. On June 22, 1935 she was married to Harold N. Morgan in Dalhart, Texas. She came to Artesia in July 1941 from McClean, Texas. He preceded her in death March 4,1967. She was a housewife and member of First United Methodist Church, dorm mother at NMSU for 10 years, member Eastern Star, Altrusa, Womens Club, Hospital Auxiliary, and was a board member for Rainbow. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Harold Michael Morgan, a grandson Brian Gurley, 9 brothers and 5 sisters. Survivors include son James Morgan and wife Cheryl of Artesia; daughter Gayla Gurley and husband Sherrell of Artesia; sister Sue Zoller of Midland, Texas; 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
