Bettye Matthews

Services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15 at First Baptist Church for Bettye Mike Matthews, 1109 W. Clayton Ave., Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Matthews, 69, died Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Covenant Specialty Hospital in Lubbock, Texas.

Rev. Rick Sullivan will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 2:00 p.m. Sunday.

Mrs. Matthews was born September 22, 1941 in Vega, Texas the daughter of George Bell and Bettye Bowman Bell. Her father preceded her in death. She came to Artesia in 1961 from Lovington, N.M.

On Dec. 1, 1980 she was married to Newell Matthews in Artesia.

She was a former checker at Furrs Supermarket. She was a member of First Baptist Church and enjoyed cooking.

Survivors include her husband Newell Matthews of the family home his mother and stepfather Bettye and Cecil Carre of Odessa, Texas a son Stephen Craig Tigert and wife Sandy of Artesia stepsons Gary Matthews and wife Karen of Artesia and Danny Matthews and wife Rilla of Artesia six grandchildren and numerous greatgrandchildren.
