Grace Smith, 89, was born in 1926 in Hope, New Mexico. She was one of nine children born to Leman and Stella Glasscock. She married Etheridge Smith in 1947. She was a life-long resident of Artesia, until 2011, when she moved to Arizona to be near her daughter.
Grace had a beautiful, loving spirit. Her life was spent in service to others; her home a place of hospitality. She was a counselor like no other, listening without judgment, loving unconditionally. Grace had a delightful sense of humor, which she possessed until the end of her days. She loved coffee, cats, crosswords, cokes, growing and sharing plants, and required a large car to accommodate all her friends going out to eat together. Her family was her greatest joy, as she was theirs.
Grace was an active member of Hermosa church of Christ, and volunteered regularly at Hermosa church of Christ Outreach Center.
Grace was preceded in death by her husband Etheridge, her parents, six sisters, and one brother.
Grace is survived by one sister, Mary Bolton, of Phoenix, Arizona; daughter Laura Austin and son-in-law Richard Austin of Tucson, Arizona; grandchildren Megan, Kendall and Olivia, and many nieces and nephews.
All are invited to a celebration of Grace's life at 10:30 am Saturday, August 15, 2015, at Terpening and Son Chapel, Artesia, New Mexico. Roby Zumwalt will officiate the service. Visitation with the family will be before and after the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Clinica Amistad at PO Box 27284, Tucson, Arizona 85726, or charity of choice.
