Betty H. Loyd 89 passed away Thursday, October 31,2013 in Roswell, NM. A memorial service will be held at Terpening Mortuary at 2:00 PM, Thursday, November 7,2013 with Rev. Rick Sullivan, pastor of First Baptist Church officiating.
Betty was bom December 27,1923 to Steve and Nell Flinchbaugh in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She was a resident of Artesia from about 1936 to 2001 when she moved to Roswell and resided at Villa del Rey until her death.
While in Artesia she worked as a dental assistant, coowned The Yarn Basket, was a member of the New Mexico Needlepoint Guild. In 1982 she was awarded the First Lady Award for her needlepoint entry in Santa Fe at La Fonda Hotel and presented by First Lady Alice King. In 1980 she was appointed by Governor Bruce King to serve on the State Human Rights Commission. She was an active member of Womens Golf Association and a life member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
Betty is survived by her son Ron Loyd and wife Billie of Artesia, granddaughter Lori and husband Verne Jones of Ruidoso. She was preceded in death by her husband Willis Truett Loyd and grandson Bradley S. Loyd as well as her father and mother. Memorials may be made to The Assurance Home of Roswell, Baptist or Christian Childrens Home of Portales or another charity of your choice.
