Betty Huxtable

Miss Betty Ruth Huxtable went to her heavenly home on July 4, in Artesia, N.M. Services will be held at Terpening Son Chapel on Thursday, July 7, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. with Rick Sullivan officiating. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 8, at Mountain View Cemetery in Deming, N.M.

Betty was born to Laura Maud Bearup Huxtable and Arthur Jack Huxtable on December 5, 1931. She graduated from Deming High School in 1949 and later graduated from Western New Mexico University in Silver City in 1953 with a Bachelor Degree in Business and Physical Education. Later, she obtained a Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Western New Mexico University.

Betty first taught girls physical education in Artesia High School and Artesia Junior High School. In 1959, she became a Counselor at Artesia High School, a position she held until her retirement in 1984. Betty was known and loved by many students.

She was an avid stamp collector and bridge player. Betty bowled on a team for many years and worldwide travel was one of her joys

She is survived by a brother James, who is a Death March survivor of the 200th New Mexico National Guard captured in the Philippines in 1942 a nephew in California a dear cousin Frances Russellin of Arizona and a long time friend Miss Wanda Lee.

Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Artesia, and Retired Teachers Association.
